A win will get you a ticket to the Super Four. It was difficult for Bangladesh to dream. South Korea is far ahead in both rankings and strength. This was reflected in the game as well. The reigning champion Korea has registered its name in the Super Four of the Hockey Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh 5-1. Malaysia has become their partner from Pool ‘B’.

India could not respond to Korea’s dominance in the first two quarters at the Rajgir Sports Complex. The happy memories of the 8-3 win against Chinese Taipei in the previous match quickly faded into thin air.

Son Dain gave Korea the lead with a great shot from inside the circle in the 9th minute. He doubled the lead two minutes later. In the 11th minute, Yang Ji-hoon’s dribble flick from the penalty corner was blocked by Bangladesh goalkeeper Biplob Kujur, but Son Dain found the net with the return shot. In the 13th minute, Bangladesh got a penalty corner, but the Korean defenders easily blocked Ashraful Islam’s dribble flick.
In the opening minute of the second quarter, Kong Yun-ho took advantage of Ashraful’s mistake and shot towards the goalpost. Biplob came forward and blocked it, but Lee Seung-woo found the back of the net with a return shot. In the 22nd minute, Oh Si-young scored the team’s fourth goal with a great reverse hit from inside the crowd. In the same minute, Sohanur Rahman Sabuj reduced the gap for Bangladesh from a penalty corner. In the 29th minute, Ashraful got another penalty corner, but this time he could not score.
In the third quarter, both teams made several attacks, but did not see success. Bangladesh focused more on defense in the fourth quarter. However, Korea got a penalty stroke before the end of the game in the 60th minute. From there, Korea’s Yang Ji-hoon made the gap 5-1.

Bangladesh, who started the tournament with a 4-1 defeat against Malaysia, finished the pool stage in third place in the table with 3 points from 3 matches. Although they were eliminated from the title race, Bangladesh’s goal now is to make it to the World Cup qualifiers from fifth place.
